#36460 RE: no_shorts_here #36451

You know, if they have evolved the product from a middleware architecture, that would make a lot of sense. So, I think it may now no longer be middleware. You might be right on that.... but only on that. I'll take that under serious consideration. It may now not any longer be middleware.

It certainly explains what they have been doing over the summer. So I would not be the least bit surprised if they have migrated the middleware and that this was done at the request of one of their unannounced marketing partners, like TD Ameritrade. I suspected there has been development and that what was once a 3rd party piece of middleware has now evolved into an Excel add-in. I couldn't get them to either confirm or deny it, of course.

I have a long and detailed email into Spooz about this, by the way. It had puzzled some of us on the board who are not full of animosity towards Spooz and who talk privately often, so I got nominated to construct an e-mail about this and I did so a while back. I have not been given an answer, so I concur that they are likely to be close mouthed about it. They have been so far.

I certainly have my suspicions due to little snippets of evidence and I also expect to eventually learn the exact architecture, but as of the mid to early summer, I had dug out certain DD and all I can say is this: It was a middleware architecture at that time.... and there is only one hint I will dole out regarding my DD that confirmed it... Indonesia LOL. I treated what I'd unearthed as good info after that.

I code for a living and I'm a tad experienced with coding to the Office standards. My office is jammed with bookshelves, and the titles are things like COM+, and the Windows Registry, and MySQL, and PHP, and Digital Certificates, and Samba Server, and Windows Sockets, and MSCE Tips on and on. I do this for a living, so, I picked up on little snippets and suspected that they were evolving. Not surprised, but it was middleware in late spring and early summer.

So, I can see how, if I were TD Ameritrade, I'd not want my customers to have two pieces of software to have working. So an evolution such as this sounds logical, but as to the last state of things that I was able to confirm independently of Spooz in early summer, it is as I have described it... a piece of middleware that was able to work with both Microsoft and Linux. Also, let me be clear: Spooz has never shared anything proprietary with me, ever. Everything I found out about the middleware I dug up on my own, but again, all I will say is Indonesia LOL.

Now, my suspicion is that, to protect themselves by being in the Microsoft envelope and to accomodate the specs of the 800 pound gorillas with whom they have marketing deals, and to make support easier, they have migrated it to an Excel 2007 compatible Add-in that is both as fast as before and is easier to support. I suspect that they did this in house. I do not know, as I've never even had inside info from Spooz regarding the middleware, much less about a possible Excel add-in. So, you are likely to be on target, but my last confirmed info was that it was, at that time, middleware.

Oh.... and as regards the rest of your opinions, I don't think you could be more wrong LOL.

So... goodnight

I have a James Bond movie to watch with my kids.
