WOW! Now that is really weird. You'd think maybe a bit of trust after a while might happen and they give him 2 years.
LOL!

There are exceptions to every rule, but if you want to offend someone, it would offend me if I brought you consecutive playoff appearence, brought the 2007 team back from the dead (They were roadkill at one point this season), and you offer me a 1 year commitment, Who are we kidding the Yankees could have thrown torre a two year deal, what's another 5 million on Torre who has had great success at manager when you spend 46 million on IGAWA. The point being is they didn't want him back and rather handle it by saying Joe we are going to go in a different direction (I would have more respect for that). Instead they offered him a paycut and a ticket to look over his shoulder every minute

1) 1 Year contract (I would have been offended, and so would most people considering the accomplishments)

2) Could create a story for the Media, I don't think any team needs a disscussion on who the manager is and who the manager is going to be? That is not helpful at all.

3) They really didn't want him back, because they knew he was going to reject that deal, I wouldn't accepted it if I was him either, it not the money as much as the yearly commitment, you name 1 manger that signed one year deals, think about managers today how many of them sign one year deal. Not many. The Yanks didn't want him back, and that is fine that is their decision, you don't offer someone a contract that no manager in baseball is offered 1 year in duration, and expect him to sign on the dotted line. They didn't want to fire him, so what they did was offer him something they knew he wouldn't take. I would have respected their decision more, and so would have Joe, if they just come out and said we decided to go in a different direction and hire someone else, as we feel we need a change. I would have accepted that. I would haven't made any comments on that. I will say this the Yankees are better off with Giradi at manager then torre on a 1 year deal. Girardi is a good manager, the team knows he is not a lame duck if the Yanks get off to a bad start after 20-25 games there is not a story on whether he will still have a job in a week. I personally would have kept torre, but I do believe Girardi is a solid manager and will do a good job. Just my opinion.
