NEW YORK (AP) -- Win or else! That was George Steinbrenner's message to Joe Torre before the New York Yankees played the Cleveland Indians on Sunday night, and that's what they did.
Maybe Steinbrenner was trying to use it as motivation for the players. I don't see any problem with that, it's not like that sort of ultimatum hasn't been put on a coach before.

Then he turned around and offered him another $5M plus incentives.
Which Torre neglected to mention in his boo-hoo press conference he had in his previous 2 contracts. Do you read the papers or just listen to drivel? The NYT obtained his previous contracts from MLB and reported the incentives. I posted the damn article.

This crap has been going on with the Yankees for generations and you make it sound like something new. They fired Stengel and paid him $160,000 to get lost.
