Playoff Scenarios
Here are the scenarios for the Phillies regarding making the postseason:
They win the National League East title with a win today and a Mets loss.
If the Phils and Mets both win today or both lose today, there will be a one-game playoff here tomorrow for the division title.
The Mets win the division if they win and the Phils lose.
The Phils and/or Mets can tie for the wild card only if they win and the Padres lose in Milwaukee today.
Three-Way Tie
In the event of a three-way tie, if the Phils lose to the Mets, they will play at San Diego on Tuesday for the wild card.
Four-Way Tie
In the event of a four-way tie at 89-73 (Mets, Rockies and Phillies win today, Padres lose), tomorrow's Phillies-Mets loser will play in a three-team, two-day, wild-card tiebreaker (with the Padres and Rockies) on Tuesday and Wednesday. The team with the best head-to-head record among the three teams in the wild-card tiebreaker gets the choice of having a bye on Tuesday or playing both games at home.
The Rockies hold the edge over the Phillies, Mets and Padres.
The Phillies hold the edge over the Padres, who hold the edge over the Mets.
