Try only one screw to hold it in the tray. Try a different tray.

I woke up this morning with a muse.

After thanking her profusely for spending some of her time and considerable talents with me I sent her home and made coffee.

It was then I had an epiphany. Screws! Are you using CD/DVD screws to mount the drive? Case screws are too long and can cause the problem you are having.
