REMEMBER it DOES NOT MATTER if we are in an uptrend or downtrend, the point is being on the right side of the PREVAILING trend. You should be able to play in either direction. Shorts were preparing daily for this trend change, getting their 'portfolio house' in order. It was the longs that entered prematurely, and kept on buying dips while the SOX sank from the 20 to the 50 to the 100 ma that finally got discouraged and closed their long positions, only to get hit by a rally after finally resigning themselves to their losses.
