pacattack, I've never seen much value in the WiFi business simply due to the fact that I don't like the idea of having to carry a laptop computer around to get the same information that you can of a tiny cellphone. Personally, I still use dial-up ISP and wouldn't bother getting broadcast information to my laptop. Also, I never liked the idea of having to erect repeaters and mesh networks all over the place to hopefully get the same service that you can get from cell towers placed every five miles or so. However, what I like and what everyone else likes aren't necessarily the same things, so I left it to wiser people than myself to promote the WiFi and WiMax business.
I was hoping that there were enough investors who could turn the WiFi business into something good, but as it turned out, this just didn't happen. As it's turning out, the wiser people aren't wiser at all. Maybe the WiFi business will work out, and I wish them well. This is something that was confirmed way back when Jay wouldn't give the subscription numbers for Tempe and only said that they had a "double-digit" increase. I think they saw the WiFi business is a potential flop back then and and that's why they decided not to invest any money in advertising. Having municipalities as an anchor could certainly help out, but local governments are having their share of problems without backing WiFi.
