Of course any individual who understands the full breath of the question would answer no. That you would answer yes is not a surprise. There are over 2+ million people in Iraq who have fled to other countries as refugees and over 2+ million additional who have been displaced from their homes. A secular country has been displaced by having the constitution which states that Islam is the rule of law. By any measure hundreds of thousands of Iraqi have died because of our invasion. Iran has been emboldened and has more influence in the Iraqi southern provinces than we do. The Kurds who were living under a free government since 1991 and not under the yoke of Saddam have now been dragged into this civil war and will be in danger from attacks from Turkey. By any rational measure they are worse off than prior to our invasion(unless one doesn’t have any value of life and what life truly means).
The other truly delusional “yes” that you arrived at was if we are safer because we invaded Iraq. By almost any measure I can think of the answer would be a resounding no. Today we are creating more terrorists than killing them. We have less support world-wide than before. Economically we are now beholding to a much more dangerous country and that is China because we need to finance this war. Our Army is weaker now than before we invaded. Our national guard is much weaker as much of their equipment is over in Iraq. We have more enemies because of our invasion and I guess in your world that makes us safer.
Your statements remind me of the Viet Nam era mantra: Better dead than red. And, so our youth, many very unenthusiastic about the project, set forth to kill to protect the Vietnamese from becoming red.
I think your opinion and that of a lot of Iraqis would differ. Most third-world country people, from my experience, are more concerned with getting food for their next meal and fuel to cook it with than they are political philosophies.
Your type mentality is exactly why I started propagandizing my own son with little off-hand remarks when he was very young to the following effect: Our family does not believe in going to other countries to attack brown and black skinned people. But, if another country ever attacks us, we must all fight. I wanted to be ahead of the military's strong appeal to the macho, innocence, and basic political ignorance of our young males.
