That's all, ...it has nothing do with your buying in the short mode. It's about the shares that are already existing in your account.

The cert will show your ownership of shares. See when a stock is shoted that means you have investors buying shares that do not exsist. Thats why when a short sqeeze happens they have to try and buy back shares that were sold that did not really exist. If MM's sell 400 million shares and we the investors come in a buy then up we could be buying shares that dont really exist on the market.
