Dale, Gawd, everyone knows a consumption based tax would work better,cheaper,& halp savings rates. It just ain't gonna happen! One of the smartest men I ever knew told me I learn to tell the difference between "what is right","and what just IS","and learn to work with what is fact!".
Dale, where do you live? I'll bet there are some mining companies, or some companies (export based)which would be helped by a stronger dollar. Write & call your congressman & senator! They are there to work for the local interest with an eye always on the national interest.
Also, I am not crazy about NAFTA! You may not like it that well. It is a FACT,though. If GOLD gets any lower (and stays there much longer) our trading partners Mexico & Canada will get killed(and us with them)! Congress & Senate love NAFTA. Even the most liberal gold hating person will support gold if they see what is going on in South Africa!
I live in Colorado, home to many mining companies. If presented with layoffs this near elections, you get the idea.
