John, your view that Ontario and Quebec should "take off" is rather divisive but what would I expect from a province that thinks its citizens "own" the oil...take my word from it if Ontario had that much oil you in Alberta would probably think it was a Central Canadian conspiracy and would demand a National Energy Program.
I don't think taking a measly portion of the provincial resource revenues and channelling them into national programs for eg. health care would be such a bad idea. It wouldn't put the oil industry out of business and if it does...well then I guess we can always nationalize oil exploration. As for the Alberta oil revenues now they are under the fine direction of such brilliant leaders as Ralph Klein, who everyone seems to love, though it's hard to see why, the man's an idiot.

Alberta has a great looking balance sheet in part because it is oil rich. Does that make you any better than anyone else? Hardly, just a random geological occurrence.
