I see quite a few "Switch to Linux" posts that remind me of the old "Get a horse!" people used to yell at stranded motorists, though I'm not quite old enough to have ever heard that yelled.
We don't know if the OS is at fault here yet. And it used to work just fine for us on the previous machine. Same OS, same ASP. Just lots more users but a lot more horsepower to deal with them.
Not only will we not switch to Linux because I simply don't know it and refuse to learn it that well (forgetting for the moment that such a conversion would take a helluva long time), switching to it as an attempted solution to the site's current problem would be like replacing your car's engine because, unbeknownst to you at the time, the old engine's distributor cap wasn't seated all the way.
Don't even ask me why I chose that particular analogy. Let's just say I was young, relatively inexperienced mechanically, and it was probably the biggest "DOH!!!" moment I've ever had with greasy hands.
PS. Once the old engine's dist cap was put on right, a lot of fun was had running that engine on the ground. "Raucous" is a good adjective for describing the sound of a Chevy 350 engine running with no exhaust manifolds. And doing so at night results in an impressive display of flame coming out the exhaust ports.
