including if one does want to go the Linux at this point in time,

If SCO claims are the only reason for your stand, then you will most likely never use Linux. Not because I think that SCO has any chances of wining the case, but because this whole charade may drag on for so long, that at its conclusion it really won't matter at all who won.
At that point in time time Linux, Windows etc will be the matter of distant history.
