Maybe they do use it? I didn't say they didn't, only that I would be very surprised, considering there are very effective alternatives. The J973 is primarily a structural tester and that looks like an addon. I sure wouldn't want the job of keeping it running in a production environment. One thing else I would add is just because the vendor claims a certain feature doesn't mean it works as expected. There are always a host of limitations and gotchas you find out about when you try to use something. What's the cost of developing a embedded BIST engine? I guess it depends on how many they intend to make. When you consider that highspeed LVDS such as USB2, SATA, aHT and PCI-Express all face what is generally the same challenge, and the speeds will get much higher with time, an internal test structure would have wide use and if the volumes are high it would save an enormous capitol expense. As AMD intends to eventually move all their volume over to Hammer, why spend the money when they don't have to?
So, maybe they do, I don't know for sure, but I do know about the competition.
