Labor unions have a great deal in common with organized crime, indeed they have not infrequently been allied. It is preposterous to argue that someone who is opposed to labor unions is pro child labor.
The more skilled the employee, the better the working conditions that a free market has to provide to attract and retain that worker. The more skilled the employee, the more readily that worker can be organized by unions. The union can use it's extortion tactics to extract better terms, at least in the short term than the worker could have obtained otherwise. In return the worker gives up some personal freedom as well as some dough in the form of checkoff dues. Both the worker and employer must work under union rules.
Unions do not raise wages for all employees. The whole attraction of a union is to gain leveraged advantage for it's members over those outside of the union, otherwise no one would accept the union's dues and work rules.
If I was to start a business, I'd like to try to attract as qualified an employee staff as I could, paying competitive salaries and benefits to attract and maintain them. They would be free to accept or decline, and continue their job hunt elsewhere. What is unfair about that? Why is a union needed? Why should the employees be allowed to form a union and threaten to shut down my business unless I accept their demands? If I was the only potential employer, I could see a need, but in today's world, there are a myriad of potential employers, as well as the opportunity to be self-employed.
