trade -- While I try not to
allow myself to get caught up in hype anymore I have to admit that I am encouraged by today's news. It seems that, for once, GTEM has become engaged with a legitimate company. That is extremely encouraging.
What tempers my enthusiasm is that this business connection is based on the viability of the Stratellite and the SkyScat which are both unproven. One, the Stratellite, is still a concept and while I believe that the Strat, or something like it, may or will eventually reach station the time line is completely in the dark. 2 years, 5 years, 10 years 20 years or more -- no one knows. The idea/concept has been enough to pull us all in -- it is the nuts and bolts needed to put reality to the concept that should give us all pause.
The SkyScat is a wholly different idea. Lower to mid altitude units already exist so the making should not be as big a problem. What is the problem is making a unit that is both different from and more versatile than others already in place.
Everything in today's PR is contingent on making the Stratellite and the SkyScat workable units -- if they can do that then, pardon the pun, the sky's the limit. If not then today's PR will join all of the others in the round file.
We can hope and pray . . .
