wall_rus, agree with your post 99.9% .. However if religion went away it would just get replaced with some other defining thing such as crooked nose vs. straight nose that people would kill over.

I don't argue that it is ALSO "GREED". But, it is ALSO, decay of the family structure, increased divorce rates, increased drop out rates, and on and on and on. I never limited it to those three areas (Abortion, Immigration, Homosexuality). Those are simply the three that Ish chose to specifically identify as "crap" issues and that is what I responded to. I've made plenty of "greed" posts on this board!

One word.... DUH! But, we don't even require education before an abortion - and certainly not the education I believe should be required - which would include a complete knowledge of adoption options which would include the new parents paying for the pregnancy. And, what about spousal rights??? They don't exist in most states. And, what about parental rights??? They don't exist in many states. And, what about third trimester??? And what about partial birth abortions???

If someone is gay, they're gay as far as I know. I assume the vast majority have a screwy chromosome in there somewhere. That is NOT the issue IMO, but to debate it would require dozens of posts and I don't feel like it. My only point is that the issue of homosexuality will NEVER go away as a conservative issue. NEVER.

I don't "presume" that I can tell others what to do any more than anyone (society) can tell ME what to do. We are ONE society. Society tells us ALL what to do. Society represents the collective soul of all of us. Unfortunately, as far as I'm concerned, the expression of "Society" is presently divorced from the collective soul and I'm not sure what kind of cataclysm is going to change it, but it will change someday.

As I've said many times - and it is UNQUESTIONABLY IMPOSSIBLE TO RATIONALLY OR HISTORICALLY argue with - religion has done almost INFINITELY more good than harm - a fact that is more and more true every single day!! Those who don't believe in a religion are all-too-willing to pick apart the rare examples of where religion either fails OR, much more likely, those who call themselves religious... fail. That is such a ridiculous argument, I can barely keep from going verbally ballistic!
