Well said, and I agree completely, although I think that all time, trouble, and expense that Libby has already endured, along with the damage to his reputation, was more than enough punishment for what was a purely partisan and excessive prosecution resulting in a totally inappropriate sentence. I personally favored a straight out pardon, but I can see some justification for the President's reasoning in granting a commutation instead. I expected a Presidential pardon at the end of the appeals process, but the order by the judge that Libby begin serving jail time now precluded that. Either way, the ultimate outcome of no jail time was a forgone conclusion, if not the means of getting there.
My congratulations to Bush for making a decision that he will catch a lot of flack for.
