Guy, the US imports lumber from Canada to export - do you have those figures? Is that ALL Canadian lumber being exported by the US or not? Maybe you can clarify

Your numbers are way off anyway. Where the heck did you come up with $3.5mm total for the entire ME? You sure talk out of that other hole a lot don't you.

The US is a significant exporter to the region and according to a US Department of Agriculture report, the country exported AED2.4 billion of soft-wood lumber to the Middle East in 2005, a 123 per-cent increase since 2001. Last year, American hardwood exports to the UAE topped nearly AED 25.7million, with lumber constituting the bulk of this trade. Analysts believe that these figures represent the region's transfer into a major wood importer and consumer. It isn't just the quantities of wood being brought into the UAE that have scaled new heights over the past couple of years. Hardwood and softwood totals=$2.43 billion

Guy42i- Your numbers are way off. You cite that the US sold a total of $3.5 Million in lumber to the entire ME. And yet,the US Census Bureau, Foreign Trade Division reports that the US sold in excess of $14 Million worth of logs and lumber (reporting category 13100) to Saudi Arabia alone in 2006. This excludes other category codes for other forest and manufactured wood products, and ignores all of the other countries in the Middle East.

From this figure alone, it demonstrates that your research is in some way flawed.
