Not surprising, but the impact on the stocks will be quite minimal. HPQ used to be in the "Semiconductors of the future", GaAs in the early 80', apart of their relatively small LED business, they have not much to show for that effort. IBM spent hundred of millions on the Josphson Junctions based devices (also supposed to be the "computers of the future" and finally spin it off as ypres (which has gone nowhere in 20 years). Got to say to IBM's credit, it was their people in Switzerland that finally broke the myth that superconductivity above 22 K is "alchemy" (g). It would be nice to find a nano company that can gro to the multi billions category and thus have a real impact on an investor staying in for 10 to 20 years, apart of a an investment in a private company, which is extremely risky, I have not found any, and I am still looking.

One can try and use BAG's approach, a spread on many companies hyped to have nano activities, and hope that the wave will lift all boats, but, that approach is extremely risky, particularly since many of these have already been premiumed to infinity (like NVEC). So far I looked at four of BAG's suggestions, NVEC, which I have been playing more or less adroitly in the last few months, even though I got caught in a maelstrom or two (g), is fine for short term swings, but be sure to get out on a close under $47, IMTO. FLML is really a drug delivery company and since it is French, I am not going to go through the trouble of following it. TINY is a VC firm, capitalized with less than $40 MM, not really sufficient to spread the risks and to add to existing investments if they require additional funds. Those that were burnt with the various public VC's in the net era (much better funded) would be careful with that one. I am not going to play that one either. MFIC is not really a NANO company, they are in the colloid generation business, selling capex to others, and barely making a living. I am still trying to find info on the other three.
