1978 Yankees Red Sox playoff game,

The Red Sox didn't quit in the ninth. Rick Burleson got a walk, and Jerry Remy hit a soft liner to right. Lou Piniella couldn't see the ball because of the sun, but he still got it on one bounce and kept Burleson from going to third. Who knows what would have happened if that ball got by him?

Rice hit a fly to right that sent Burleson to third. Yaz stepped to the plate with two out and the game on the line. Remember the conversation on the mound? I starting telling myself "Why are you so nervous? This is supposed to be fun. What's the worst thing that could happen? If you lose, you'll be back home in Colorado hunting elk."

After that, I felt like the weight of the world was lifted from me, and I was throwing harder than I had all day. On a 1-0 pitch, I threw a fastball right down the middle that tailed in hard on Yaz.

He popped out to (Graig) Nettles at third, and the Yankees won the game and the division.

Don't think for a minute there were not any Red Sox fans yelling for Nettles to drop the ball. Hell I was surrounded by them while watching in a bar in Worcester.
