That’s not entirely correct. Follow-on biologics is an imprecise term that means different things to different people. The way the term is used by many, it includes drugs that are nearly identical to a reference drug as well as drugs that are tweaked to be somewhat better.
MAXY, who is working on the second category of drug, refers to its candidates as biosuperior, but this term has not caught on in with anyone else.
GTCB uses the term follow-on biologics to include both biosimilar and biosuperior candidates. Regards, Dew
