I and the laws of physics assure you that the sats travel in a circlular or eliptical orbit.

Over time, the pattern of an orbit or the combination of orbits of several sats traced out on a flat map of the earth might be described as resembling some aspects of a figure 8...but the sats do not travel in a figure 8.

To reiterate, the sat's are in a geostationary orbit, which means they essentially do not move. They are actually moving with the orbit of the earth. They must remain staionary from the ground perspective or you would lose the signal.

Go to the SIRI website, you can watch the Satellite postions as they orbit. They do a figure 8 over North America.
