>>it was mobbed like never before<<

Jerry, Truth be told, I don't think we are going to see the predicted numbers get hit. I was really surprised that WMT's numbers weren't higher. Store count was up 4.1% and sales were up just 6.3%, I don't see how same store sales could be much higher than 2.5%.

I have been here at my store all day today and I'm not seeing the usual hussle of years past. I drove by a mall Friday night and the parking lot did not look anymore full than any Friday night. I think there is a lot hype out there. With refi's being down so much and unemployment higher, I got to think that shoppers will not have as much money to part with this year as many predict.

The hype could make it bullish short term but becareful for a bad headline.

That said, the Visa numbers were impressive.

Jerry, you can't really go by the day after Thanksgiving or even the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The special sales and giveaways skew the numbers more now, IMO.

There has been a trend towards 6-hour sales on the day after Thanksgiving. 3 or 4-years ago, it was a novelty. Now it is the norm. Everyone is competitng to get the shopper's attention on the morning of the Friday after Thanksgiving.

The stuff they sell at those sells is not profitable. That's not what counts. It's making money that counts. You do that the next 3-weekends.

That's what counts, IMO. Not this give it away weekend.
