I do point out that there were some improvements in plaque reduction in the secondary endpoints in ILLUMINATE
I would suggest that this should worry a CETP inhibitor fan - that it causes more deaths while having some positive effect on atheroma volume. It means that inhibition of CETP is making the remaining atheroma more rupture prone.
I'd call the secondary endpoints coincidental to the fact that a huge boost in HDL got essentially nothing in interarterial plague volume reduction and a negative effect on arterial thickness.
