CETP Inhibition may have died prematurely. Let's wait to see if Roche and MRK proceed to PhIII this year. Certainly Alan Tall's editiorial in the NEJM today was a bit more encouraging than David Miller's posts here. David, you may end up being correct, but let's leave open the possibility that the off target toxicity may have also affected the efficacy. I do point out that there were some improvements in plaque reduction in the secondary endpoints in ILLUMINATE. Also let's hope that Roche and MRK can figure out a quicker and cheaper way to get to the final endpoints here, and not have to spend $800M and several years to get an answer.
