I am also a REALTOR. I upgraded my notebook last November from an old Sony Vaio Pentium 3 (It WAS a workhorse, never had a problem with it. Just became outdated.)
Here is what I purchased, and I'm quite happy with it. Order from Dell small business group, not the home group if you go the Dell route. I got the external HD from Dell, as well (not on this invoice):

Depending on the UPS you bought, there is software you can install on your 'puter to monitor how many/how bad the spikes are. All you need to do is plug in the USB cable.
I save all my transaction docs (ZipForms) on a dedicated flash thumb drive and also back up those files on the external HD. That way, whether i am on my own computer or on someone elses (like the office computer), I always have my docs available.
Hi, Sue. I didn't know you were a Realtor. I'm a broker in coastal L.A., for over 20 years now. Pretty much quit when I became a full-time trader 5 or so years ago, but still maintain my license and do a deal here and there for friends/past clients. What area do you work?

PS How's the 'ladies room' doing without me now that I'm a freeloader again and can no longer post there?
