Ironically, as things have worked out, even with the slow pace of TURNS it may end up better that ORG24448 is at least being advanced in the slow TURNS trial rather than languishing while Schering works their way toward it on their list of priorities... Aiming4.

Erik, So maybe we were better off with the devil we knew? I can't imagine Schering being any slower than Organon though. Of course it would have been better if an AMPA oriented BP had bought Organon. As we know, the list is growing - Lilly, Glaxo, and more recently Sanofi Aventis had some AMPA upregulation patents, plus Merck might conceivably be entering the picture.

Hope you are still doing your annual bike trips. I was in Scotland last Fall (non-biking). Will hopefully be getting into Scandinavia one of these years to explore Norway and Sweden where my ancestors were from. Good to see you still interested in Cortex.

>I am afraid it might take at least a year for Hassan & co. to reach the Ampakines on their to-do list following the merger. There are so many things to do in a merger of this kind. Not until SGP has dealt with the new organisation set-up, personell matters (whom to fire, whom to retain, whom to move, whom to try to convince to stay etc.), marketed products and late-stage products will there be time to start thinking about the phase II products<

This might be true at a slow-moving behemoth such as PFE, but not (IMO) at SGP. Hassan is the closest thing there is within Big Pharma to a monarch—he consults with his inner circle, decides what needs to be done, and does it.

The PR says the deal is expected to close by the end of 2007, but it could be much sooner than that because I do not foresee any significant pushback from the regulators. No shareholder vote is required by either company, so this deal could conceivably close as soon as mid-summer.
