40-45% of Alzheimer’s cases could be prevented with relatively straightforward lifestyle changes. Addressing risk factors like physical inactivity, smoking, poor diet, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and social isolation plays a significant role in reducing risk, even for those with genetic predispositions. However, once AD sets in, it is extreme difficult to stop, slow, or reverse.

So if you want to significantly reduce your risk, get off your couch or out of your easy chair, exercise (walk 3-4 miles a day), quit smoking, eat a healthy diet, maintain normal blood pressure and cholesterol, and engage socially with other people.

If everybody could do those simple things, Alzheimer’s would be greatly reduced. So start there.
