I too was wondering, but if it's even close to being correct, nearly all of it would be naked shorts. I forget what the official report on shorts showed, but it was nowhere near that, and they'd be the ones that aren't naked. Derivatives may be able to create such positions, I really don't understand how, but if anywhere close to a billion shares are naked shorts we could have one of the greatest short squeezes in history.
