I ended up buying the Dell I described (16GB ram, i7 core, and 1TB storage for a sale price of $499), but I just got it up and fully running today.
The biggest issue was trying to load Office Home 2024. I bought it at Best Buy and put the 30 character codes in, but nothing happened. Each day I worked with it a little bit more, but it just keep directing me to the store to buy the software. After about 3 days, I get an email that tells me my purchase has been authorized and to download Office. Next time I went to the store there was a link to download with. Not a good process at all.
The next big issue was getting my 2 monitor screens to work. I am pretty sure when I plugged the J-Create adaptor the first time, the driver automatically downloaded. Not this time. Windows 11 has a safe mode that will only let one download software from the Microsoft Store. This may have blocked the driver download. I looked for the driver in the store, but it was not there. So I had to switch out of Safe Mode which was not they easy to figure out how to do. Anyway got it done and the two monitors are up and running, but getting the screen positioning right was not easy.
Bottom line, I love this new computer. I had originally picked the Dell because the keyboard keys had a clicky touch to them which for me made it much easier to type. Windows 11 has not been an issue as I have been using a computer at a nonprofit I volunteer with for almost a year. To me the changes are minor.
But the big surprise is Excel. A lot of the functions are colored, so it makes them really stand out. I think I was using a 2017 version and this one is so much improved.
Finally, the computer screen white is a soft white which I really enjoy. My monitors are really bright white. I am sure I could change the setting, but I am not going to. The soft white works really well with Excel.
Happy New Year to everyone and we will be off and running Monday.
