These many miles long, on average 100 foot wide corridors, can prove to be invaluable and functional for utility expansion through rural mountains terrain or areas that have been developed around since the 1880's. The company was said to have acquired the land after mining operations defaulted on their loans after the mine played out or ore prices collapsed . That's the same way WaMu acquired the mineral rights you speak of, all socked away into the holding company trusts. If I am remembering correctly.
