flipper44,

Bioavailability of the Lithium and toxicity levels are being looked at comparatively between carbonate and prorate forms with claims about the orotate form being superior needing further study. There seems to be benefit of low dose and since low dose orotate is already an over the counter supplement folks can get it now. Environmental factors, including naturally occurring Li in water sources and interactions with NSAIDs are also being studied carefully with regard to cause and effect. Bottom line is there is still a lot to learn but supplements are available for those choosing to use them. The study cautions about use with things known to cause unintended interactions and really focuses on the bioavailability of the lithium itself regardless of the form taken and also suggests that other salt forms of lithium could or should be studied as well in the hope of finding a standout. Best wishes.
