Yes trials are guided by strict protocols so Linda used SOC on all of her patients in trials but clinical use for an individual patient would not necessarily be held to those guidelines as doctors can prescribe best clinical use of a treatment based on all evidence once approved. If that means taking into account that some patients do not benefit from parts of SOC then that can be removed from treatment regimen especially if it interferes with quality of life as well. To make matters worse, hospitals and doctors are financially incentivized to sell chemo and radiation as SOC even if the patient is not likely to benefit from one or both treatments. Best wishes.
