Yeah, they were saying they will be big like those two, but they are omitting details.
They have been saying they would launch since 2021. They also stated back then that they had this huge library, but now in 2025 the costs of libraries are huge, so I doubt they still have the same level four years later. They also don’t create any content; they are essentially more like Tubi/Crackle/Pluto. So unless they get a deal with a big fish or create content, they aren’t really going to be “huge” unless they find a unique line of content.
You did bring up Lionsgate, so I redid a search on them, and apparently, they are being considered for a buyout by Legendary.
This sort of comes back to SAE. If Lionsgate is bought out, then they would be under Legendary, and since Starz is now separated, it would potentially have to renegotiate licensing terms for its current library from Lionsgate. They may also get access to a bigger library, but the current terms run until 2028. So if that goes through, Starz could be able to maintain a contracted relationship, could also be offered a buyout, or could be left high and dry. This impacts the supposed deal with SAE — should they ever prove it — because Starz might be more inclined/desperate to get more films in their library. But if things go really badly, they may offer less money or revoke the deal.
I would 100% doubt Starz is looking to acquire or expand deals with SAE unless SAE manages to prove a huge portfolio of films or really gets it together for producing and or editing media (crusher) and or materials (Hanger)
