Derf, >> I don't own guns <<

It's not a bad idea to have a few for home protection, to learn the basics of shooting, etc. My dad gave me a .22 rifle as a kid, and we'd go target shooting together. For home protection I'd recommend a revolver, which is much simpler to operate than a semi-auto pistol -- a.38 Special to start with, and then maybe a..357 once you get more experience.

But if there are kids around, or if grandkids periodically come over, make sure any guns are locked safely away and out of reach and unloaded. There's also an old saying -- 'never buy your wife a gun', lol.

A few ideas -

S+W .38 Special +P Airweight -

Ruger SP-101 .357, which can also shoot .38 Special rounds -

How long does it take pool water to dechlorinate? 5-10 days

... chlorine will dissipate when exposed to the air and sunlight.

Get a portable water filter for an apocalyptic scenario when you are forced out of your house because you didn't buy guns to keep away people with guns.

Derf, It looks like the Fed could have the green light for several rate cuts in the months ahead. 1/4 point next week, and 1/4 point at either the late Oct or early Dec meeting. Beyond that we'll have to see how much inflation comes out of these tariffs. Fwiw, I'm still leery, but upped the stock allocation to 15% (from 12%).

Derf, FIGR looks interesting as a potential play on the stablecoin rollout and blockchain payments in general. It had its IPO today and had a nice pop, but will see where it bases. The market cap should be ~ 5-6 bil range, and net income is now positive. The co-founder (Mike Cagney) previously founded SoFi -

Figure Technology Solutions (FIGR) co-founder Mike Cagney says his blockchain business is ready for the big time.

"So if you think of something like the stock market, it's an easy example. Seven parties sit in between buyers and sellers of every transaction. Blockchain has the ability to distill that down just to two," Cagney told me on Yahoo Finance's Market Catalysts (video above).

Figure Technology Solutions raised $787.5 million in its IPO this week. The company sold 31.5 million shares priced at $25, above the expected range of $20 to $22. At the IPO price, Figure's valuation was stamped at $5.3 billion.

The stock opened at $36 in early afternoon trading, up about 44%.

The company was co-founded in 2018 by Cagney, who previously co-founded SoFi. A complicated business at first glance, Figure at its core is a blockchain platform that supports lending, trading, and investing in consumer credit and digital assets.

According to its IPO prospectus, its technology helps fund home equity loans in just 10 days compared to the industry average of 42 days.

For the 12 months ended June 30, 2025, Figure facilitated approximately $6 billion of home equity lending, up 29% from a year ago. The company earns a piece of the volume it helps fund.

Total revenue clocked in at $190.6 million for the six months ended June 30, up 22% from a year ago. Net income came in at $29.4 million versus a loss of $13.4 million last year.
