BIEL has said publicly that the components don't last, but I don't believe them because:
* the components are SMT and SMT components last a long time -- plus they're encased in epoxy making them last even longer.
* Srinsocal has claimed that BIEL is working on a design with a rechargeable battery which proves the components last a long time.
In electrical circuits, the switch is usually the first thing to wear out, but the replacement 2032 battery holders have a switch. The antenna might break after awhile but you can just solder the break. Srinsocal's wonderful photo shows a trial device with an antenna that he broke and shortened -- it's just a piece of wire.
Without legitimate testing, I wouldn't advise anybody.
Legitimate testing? Once the battery dies, what does the consumer have to lose? From a safety standpoint, it's only 3vdc and that's not going to hurt anyone.
But that aside -- I am NOT advising anybody to do anything. Quite the contrary -- I'm advocating for letting this drop right now.
