I told the story here of a dude I used to work with. He was a grade one racist and a Trump humper through and through but he was an excellent carpenter and worked with all of us when the chips were down.

A big dude, so he could back his insults that he liked to hurl up if it ever came to that. He knew that and had the inner rage to go along with it. A good family man and loved to shoot/hunt so I hooked him up with others in the club. I didn't care.

The day they announced that Biden won the election we were working downtown and the streets were exploding in a party like atmosphere. Music, dancing, just pure joy for the most part and he was pissed. We were wearing masks back then and were walking out onto the streets to get to the parking garage. He had his Trump mask on.

So we're going to the garage with cartloads of tools on the sidewalk and some nutty little girls came and grabbed him and me by the arm and wanted us to go out in the streets with them. I wouldn't leave the tools behind so I flatly refused but he wound up disappearing into the crowd with a cute little black girl for about 15 minutes. I couldn't push both carts, so I waited for him.

When he came back, his Trump mask was gone and he told me that he'd break my neck if I ever spoke about that day to the people that knew us. I obliged and kept his secret because he was a really great carpenter. LOL He went right back to bashing it all the next day and jumped on the phony election bandwagon but for that moment in time I saw him as a person rather than an asset that I tolerated.

He's since moved to Georgia because his kid got an athletic scholarship out there and is working building houses and stuff. I talk to him once in awhile and still needle him about that day, right along with the threats to still break my neck.

It's water under the bridge now because I'm out of the biz but it's still funny to me that they take the lengths that they go to protect the mere thought that they could be an accepting human for just 15 minutes of their life.
