There are a lot of pithy things I could say to that. But if that's the bar, then the phase 3 trial for DCVax-L was a failure, in Dr Liau's words. It, too, ended up not having a "true placebo" arm, and indeed it makes the results difficult to interpret.
Never mind that in the intervening years there have been various studies reporting on overall survival consistent with the ~20 months reported in the EF-14 study. It's been over 4 years since her remarks, and TTF has not stopped generating data.
And didn't you know that the EF-14 trial had 29 authors?! And it was published in JAMA!
