U Mass endowment 1.5 billion, Harvard is at least as much.....

Srsly??? Harvard's endowment is $53.2 billion. A little larger than U Mass's. MIT"s endowment is about half that, at $24.6 billion. Wellesley College's endowment--and this is significant because Wellesley doesn't have professional schools--law, business, medicine--nor does it have significant graduate programs--was $2.982 billion in 2024. Now, it seems, Republicans are trying to raise taxes on it and other colleges and universities.

I went to Wellesley.

But this stuff is more expensive than one imagines. The endowments of universities need to be sustained, and things like scientific and medical research are very expensive. They and the people who run the programs are almost always to some extent dependent on government grants,
