Markman is the name of an inventor/patentee/or attorney who requested a hearing before the CCPA/CAFC to interpret language used in patent claims, decades ago. The name stuck to denote any hearing to interpret claim language. 

I agree that judge-ordered cancellation of a Markman hearing has often been a prelude to settlement between parties.

Nuke, This hearing would have been an opportunity for Hikma to narrow the scope of our patent protection. I assume that they don't think they can.
