Thanks, must be my end. Here my latest research note on it, then the update makes two:

That top right number has been stuck on 99+ since i can remember.
Maybe it does have something to do with an overstuffed mailbox.

Computer was sleeping while your two and janice's message came in, so would have not seen notifications. I've felt for a long time those swarms of to 7 could be ones which were lined up for replies that had come in while i was offline. So far not a peep of a notification since coming back on.

Update on above note: Then yours came in. And while i was typing the top sentence here 7 notifications arrived.

Another just came in. 2..3..4.. ok, it stopped at 4 that time.

Now i'll check the mail, guessing 1 more has come in .. yep, one more from janice came in.

So when yours came in i got 7 notifications. When the last from janice arrived i got 4 notifications.

Thanks Shelly, A bug in my computer, maybe? Or something in my setting, went there
yesterday and couldn't see a possibility regarding notifications. Am using Windows 10.

Last one Shelly, just because .. when just now i clicked on that last public reply
from janice which i had got 4 notifications for when it arrived i got 1..2..3 more.

Immediately they stopped, checked mail and no new pms and no new public replies.

Just so my two replies to yours are under each other here, and so it's perfectly clear exactly what is happening.
