Howie listens to all of this information and then proceeds to throw it all away and falls back on dogma. This is core to the fundamental problem in both sides of our discourse. Even if you were presented with new information, that could change your mind, The people on your team that make money by keeping everyone divided will make damn sure that you retreat back to your corner.

Some people find comfort in clinging to their beliefs and their cognitive bias is strong.

Tribalism is the biggest thing. Social structures, this is tribalism, the need to feel belonging amongst peers, this is an innate human characteristic. Religion plays off this it is tribalism. No real god ever said anybody was better than anybody else and no real God ever compelled anybody to kill anyone.

You will come in here agreeing with the original posters comment, but you will read my comment about religion and you will do the same thing that Howie Mandel is doing and fall back on your dogma= you just proved it's tribalism way to go.

You can still believe in a higher power and still have good morals and you don't need to belong to a cult or read an old book that's went through hundreds of alterations. Religion is tribalism.

This is a spot on comment and needs to be paid attention to ....is anyone capable of hearing accurate detailed information and then changing their own view....even if that goes against the ideology of your inner friends circle ...The answer is it takes a strong minded intendent thinker...not a follower trying to fit in.

#502967 RE: Zorax #502962

So I put the question to Perplexity, Search and AI. They do not shy away from political questions and they show sources; highlighting 3 or 4 with a 'show all' choice. This one had 9 sources in all.

The 'reasons' and 'implications' in this response could be prefaced with 'Captain Obvious here' and 'really?, are you f'ing kidding?!' And you could subsume all of it as a manifestation of 'the ends justify the means'.

What are the 'standard trio of ethics and transparency agreements with the federal government' and why is Trump refusing to sign them?

Answer

The "standard trio of ethics and transparency agreements" that Donald Trump has been hesitant to sign during his presidential transition refers to the following key components required for a smooth transition of power:

Ethics Pledge: This agreement mandates that all members of the transition team commit to avoiding conflicts of interest once they assume office. It includes disclosures about financial interests and adherence to ethical standards.

Funding Transparency: The agreements require the incoming administration to disclose the sources of funding for the transition process, including limits on individual contributions (typically capped at $5,000) and restrictions on foreign donations. This is intended to ensure transparency regarding who is financing the transition and what influence they may exert.

Collaboration Agreements: These memoranda of understanding (MOUs) facilitate cooperation between the incoming administration and the outgoing one, covering critical areas such as IT services, office allocations, and enabling background checks for Cabinet nominees by the FBI.

Reasons for Trump's Refusal to Sign

Trump's refusal to sign these agreements stems from several concerns:

Conflict of Interest: Signing the ethics pledge would imply a commitment to divest from his various business interests, which include real estate, licensing ventures, and stakes in companies like Truth Social. His ongoing
business activities raise significant conflict-of-interest concerns that he may be reluctant to address formally.

Funding Secrecy: By not signing the agreements, Trump can accept undisclosed contributions without revealing their sources. Critics argue this lack of transparency could allow for potential foreign influence or other unethical financial arrangements.

Distrust of Federal Processes: Trump's history of skepticism towards federal agencies, particularly the FBI, has led him to prefer private background checks over standard procedures. This reflects a broader reluctance to engage with established governmental norms and processes.

Political Strategy: Maintaining control over his transition process without adhering to traditional ethical standards may be seen as a way to consolidate power and avoid scrutiny during a politically sensitive period.

Implications

The failure to sign these agreements poses risks not only for national security but also for the integrity of the incoming administration. Without these agreements in place, Trump's team lacks access to critical information from federal agencies, which could hinder their ability to govern effectively from day one. Additionally, it raises concerns about accountability and transparency in governance, which are vital for public trust in democratic institutions.
