Yes, ceterus paribus you'd get a higher p-val from a lower n for a sample (ie, subgroup) taken from a larger population.

The S1 variant analysis was good to see, but it isn't definitive. The company notably didn't provide the Cohen's D. Disappointing, but shouldn't be a surprise given how the company never said any difference would be stat-sig.
