No. That wasn't how it was, or is, at all. In the beginning, the NRA was okay. Its members were mostly hunters who thought it was important to teach young people about firearms safety. It wasn't till the '90s that it was taken over by a bunch of fanatics. And that was when a lot of prominent people--like the older Bush--began to resign.
By this century, it was run by a bunch of corrupt, greedy "patriots".
