That's interesting. I never really followed the EV market aside from what is in the news. LOL it's usually about all the problems with the Teslas like spontaneous combustion and terrible user interface that leads to bad accidents along with some real shoddy construction of the vehicles themselves.
I haven't heard anything bad about the domestic made EVs, except for the price. A quick look around shows affordable vehicles but they are smaller cars and not as flashy as the larger SUVs and pickup trucks that Americans seem to desire more. We love our gas guzzlers and dealers are having a hard time selling EVs right now.
I know a couple people that have them though and they have plenty of good things to say about their cars. They are much cheaper to operate comparing gasoline prices to electric bills and seem to be reliable vehicles. I can completely understand why Australia would want Chinese cars. Our bottom line here is protecting our domestic auto producers but since you have none, there is no harm to your market aside from the software as your article explained..
I suppose maybe someday I'll take the plunge but I have 2 vehicles myself and one of them is 24 years old, has almost 300k miles on it and still runs great. The rust will probably claim that little pickup before the mechanical parts fail beyond repair. The car I have is super clean and I want to keep it that way. I only use it to go out on dates or when I go shopping and things. I try to take it out of the garage at least once every two weeks just to make sure the battery is charged up and the oil is circulating because it basically sits on a trickle charger all winter unless its a nice day with clean roads.
LOL at the rate I'm going, when the truck finally dies and I switch to the car full time, I'll probably get the same type of usage out of that one so I might never have to buy another vehicle again. The car does have 100k miles on it because I bought it used from my sister and got the deal of the century on it or otherwise I wouldn't have it.
