We don’t know why Gilstrap reassigned the case. Could be the new judge has more availability for bench trial & jury trial, or Folsom—being mediator/special master—felt essentiality matters are more familiar to the new judge, who replaced Folsom upon retirement.
Maybe Gilstrap had it with the nonsense and complexities invoked by Samsung, and gave parties a chance to mediate, when unsuccessful as I figure Netlist thankfully didn't give in and thereby simplify issues Samsung thrust into the case, Gilstrap reassigned it—maybe gave warning prior mediation that he may.
You'd think Gilstrap has enough experience and wherewithal to proceed to conclusion, but it could be something completely different to which we’re not privy yet. So, what the F is going on is beyond me, there are many possible scenarios that we can think of and those we can’t—we don’t know what we don’t know—and I'm done trying to figure it out and speculate on minimal information…just going to let it play out!
