If the defendants are carrying a sizable short position which I believe is very possible, then a settlement would bury them and cost them alot more than the settlement itself. I do not think they have any choice but to see this through

The defendants better tread lightly around LP, for sure... I don't believe there will be any settlement without verifiable proof of an end to spoofing/shorting from them, and LP might not settle then... she might want the underbelly of the beast exposed to the world to put an end to their theft... if so, she should go into hiding... many people have been murdered for less...
