To summarize: L/S and systematic hedge funds are getting crushed on their core pair trades where the shorts are blowing up in their face and forcing margin calls which are leading to huge degrossing, only instead of actually degrossing, hedge funds are grossing up even more by loading up on record Russell calls in hope of catching some alpha to offset the beta pain. What can possibly go wrong?
