Nope. I got it from an April article Xena recently posted. I’ll find it a little later. And also my interpretation of what Andy wrote to me in the email. I know we disagree on that, but he wrote what he wrote. For now I’m going back to sleep.
KCC, to continue our discussion from yesterday morning:
I had stated the following which you strongly objected to: “The industry seems to think the first million is probably 2 to 3 years away if ever.”
You accused me of pulling that statement out of a smelly orifice, and then we got into a back and forth on what Andy emailed to me vs what you interpreted him as saying at the OFC conference, but I also mentioned that I would look for an article recently posted by Xena which supports what I wrote:
This was written late April of 2023, so is fairly current, and it includes the following which I think supports the statement I made that you took offense to:
Last year at OFC, there was a ton of talk about co-packaged optics,” said Rob Shore, senior vice president of marketing, Infinera. “You would have expected a significant amount of progress given all that talk, but it was almost the exact opposite. Most people were saying, ‘Hey, we made so much progress on pluggable optics, bringing down the cost and enabling higher capacity, that it looks like it’s probably pushed out the drive for co-packaged optics by a couple of years at least.
And then there’s the practical aspect: “I was walking around OFC and asking the people making these optics, are you shipping these?” said Michael Klempa, OIF interoperability chair. “And they said, no. I think they built a solution to a problem that doesn’t need to be solved immediately. But everyone agrees it’s going to need to be solved eventually.
The recent article supports my claim that the first million could well be 2 to 3 years out if ever because . because obviously the industry just wants to change as little as possible.
Will Lightwave be able to make the industry stand up out of their chairs, or will be resistance be palpable?
I"m not claiming to be an expert, of course - just interpreting what I'm reading. If you have a different interpretation feel free to share it.
